I just love Christmas money!

By the grace of God, I still have all 4 of my grandparents. They are really good people who have taught me more than I could ever begin to share with you. My dads mother who I named as a toddler, Mommo....don't laugh.....spoils me rotten and always has. Every year she sends me a check with these stipulations:

#1 It has to be spent on myself. Not the kids, the bills, the dog or anything like that.
#2 It has to be something I wouldn't normally buy for myself.

So after reading various blogs including Annie Knits and seeing The Loopy Ewe talked about so well I thought I would check them out to see what all the hu-bub was all about. Well I was in sock heaven! I just had to have enough to finally make MYSELF something. Everything is always being knitted to give away! SO I placed my order quickly to ensure I got what I wanted, made sure to spend $50 (what the heck I will make myself TWO pairs of socks!) to reap the Free Shipping reward! WOOT! Then got a brilliant idea to gift a friend with a Gift Certificate for Christmas so she could enjoy Sheri's store too!

I quickly sent an e-mail to Sheri though telling her that the logo is too adorable and that I think she needs to be making some T-Shirts fast!

Check it out and you tell me: Isn't it adorable? I love that the little guy is wearing some handknit socks! As soon as my lovely yarn is in, I will radidly post a pic of it so you can all be a little bit jealous! :)

Happy Knitting!!

My Daughter the Musician!

Megan who is in the 5th grade and in Middle School had her first band concert the other night. She is playing Clarinet and I am so proud of her. I have to say I was very impressed with each band that played. The 5th and 6th grade each had their own band and the 7th & 8th graders had a seperate one.

They all played so well! I had never heard a bunch of 5th graders sound so good so of course I ordered the CD they made....well not 1 but 6....have to send them to family! Yes these pics are staged because she is 3rd chair and from where I sat I couldn't get a good angle on her and my pics all turned out dark... can you tell she is excited!?

I didn't mean for this scarf to come out so skinny (3.5" wide) but my novice brain didn't know it would pull in so much. Blocking may be an option but I have never done that and I don't think it looks bad so I am giving it as is. I made sure it was plenty long and the furry sections sure does give it some interest but my goodness the ends to weave in! I hope my friend like it! It was knit with Nature Wool Chunky. I just loved the pink color....I wanted a pretty green but couldn't find one that spoke to me.

Hopefully I will be able to get a pic of my friend wearing it so you can see it modeled.

I started my mothers scarf in the Manos....I searched for a pattern that wasn't too busy but would look beautiful with the yarn.....again I chose the One Row Scarf from The Yarn Harlot... I just really like it's result and the ease of pattern.....
I really hope she wears this one. I have yet to see her wear the other two I knit for her last year one of which I really really loved but it was before my passion REALLY sunk in and so I don't have a picture of it.

So still on the needles is :

  • Moms Manos Scarf
  • My Red Scarf ....I cast on the 2nd time last night with Patons Shetland Chunky Tweeds....pictures to come soon....
  • Chenille Washcloth....for a friend of mine
Projects to Start:

  • Darling Husband's Besotted Scarf
  • Socks for everyone.....THAT should keep me busy for a while....LOL

6 Weird Things About Me

Well it seems as though Cindy wants to know some weird things about me.....having been weird my whole life I thought I was finally in the closet so to speak....I've only ever wanted to be "cool". LOL

1. Ever since I was a small child my fathers' nickname FOR me was "weird beard". He didn't mean it in any negative sense at all. The two words rhyme, I was the first , he is very much a grown kid. The name stuck....it wasn't until I was in elementary school that I came to think "weird" might not be a good thing. When kids said "You are so weird" I thanked them. Made them really confused I might add.

2. I am a very organized, meticulous person.........at work, in an office. At home I feel very much lost, confused and generally a lazy slob. I have no idea what that's all about and since I don't work in an office anymore....I don't feel very organized. Why is it that at work I am almost OCD about my space but at home...not so much?

3. To that end, my room at any given time might have clothes here and there but when I go to bed, my bed covers have to be PERFECT. The top sheet has to be facing the right way. The blanket has to be perfectly centered even though 5 minutes later I hog the whole thing and the comforter has to be on correctly, centered and smoothed. My husband could just fall into the bed and not fool with any of that and he not care. I also have to have the room pitch black with the bathroom door SHUT. If open I can sit up in bed and see the toilet and that just grosses me out.

4. I don't like to drive UNDER an overpass, railroad etc....I have a fear that it will come crashing down on me (hey it's happened hasn't it?) and anyone who has driven downtown St Louis KNOWS it IS inevitable. I hold my breath and speed.....LOL

5. I have to come to realize I get overstimulated and all hell breaks loose. I never understood what this was but 1 husband, 3 kids and 2 puppies later I go "AHA!" I can't have all this incessant noise...especially if I am trying to concentrate ...writing, casting one etc. Last night I was trying to think and DH (darling hubby) kept telling me and making me listening to his ringtones......ahhhh let me THINK! LOL I love em though....y'all know that....

6. I won't walk on grates....you know the kind on sidewalks....that lead to somewhere else. I mean I think that it's only metal....someday they are going to rust through, break under the weight or SOMETHING. Nothing even brought about this "fear". I never SAW anyone fall through but I know it's gonna happen someday.

So I don't know how many of these are "weird" or just stupid or whatever.....do you know me better now? Maybe! LOL Sometimes I have a tendency to say to much....LOL.....I don't know who to tag next because honestly I am pretty new to this blogging thing and all the bloggers I know have already been tagged! So if you are reading this and think you would like to take on this "Chain Challenge", then leave a comment and your blog address and I will link you from this post!

I am hopefully finishing the pink scarf today and I did start on the lovely BEAUTIFUL Manos scarf in the Harlots simple One Row Scarf pattern....I am trying to see how much I will have left to use for ME as this scarf is for me mum...oh I mean my mother..... I can't wait to get my hands on those bottom 2 skeins of Wool in the Woods....I think I am going to knit the My So Called Scarf with that.

Happy Knitting!

Christmas is nearing and my projects are finishing!

Here is my Dad's Irish Hiking Scarf finally finished. My first project with cables and it turned out great! This is using Plymouth Encore... I couldn't believe how fast this knit up....I see many more scarves like these in my future and in fact I think I am going to do this one for The Red Scarf Project.

Washcloths for my Secret Santa and my sons Pre-school teachers. These are using Crystal Palace Cotton Chenille. 1/2 skein each.

The Yarn Harlots One Row Scarf which turned out FABULOUS! My only problem was that I was using the leftover of a skein which was supposed to be the same dye lot only it wasn't....my son Jack thinks it s great though and was so PROUD to have it! Here he is in it after the great ice storm. This was using Arucania Nature Wool Chunky.

Here is a scarf I am knitting for a friend....I still have a ways to go on it.....Another Nature Wool Chunky....

Lets Get It Started

I love that song by The BlackEyed Peas. Really motivates me to do what needs to be done....whether it's cleaning, or working out....

I am hoping that this new version of Blogger is going to help me post to you what I have been trying to for ages now.

Happy Knitting!
